Transgender Day of Remembrance - 2024
🕯️ Honoring Trans Lives | Transgender Day of Remembrance 🕯️
Transgender Day of Remembrance began in 1998 after the murder of Rita Hester in Boston. A week after her passing, over 200 people gathered for a candlelit vigil—a tradition that continues today. Across the world, we come together to mourn, remember, and call for justice for those we have lost to anti-trans violence.
On this day, many of us feel grief, anger, and deep sorrow as we reflect on the lives taken too soon. We hear the names, see the faces, and hold space for the people we love, knowing that transphobia, anti-Blackness, anti-indigeneity, and trans misogyny continue to harm our community. But we also remember joy, resilience, and the beauty of trans existence.
At SĀFTY, we are committed to unconditional support for trans youth. We offer:
🌟 Free talk therapy for trans youth without family support
🌟 Free name change assistance (including court fees) for young adults 18-25
🌟 Support for gender-affirming surgery letters
✨ If you are a trans young person, please reach out. We are here for you. 💜
